Grocery Shopping
Think a minute about when you go grocery shopping. How do you shop exactly. What I mean is do you have a standard route you always take. Lets take myself for example, when I used to shop at a particular grocery store more often than not I would head directly to the junkfood section. Well that was my habit reinforced time and time again when I went in to that store. So when you go to the grocery store do you take the same route within the store or do you randomly shop with no specific plan.  Do you always head to the candy aisle, the pop aisle, the potato chip aisle or to the middle aisles in the store? Think about that for a moment because you may have formed habit behavior that is not helping you to lose weight. Here's what you need to do:

1. Plan your meals (look at our recipes for healthy meals)
2. Make a list before you go on a full stomach
3. Review that list-are there items that you can change or substitite (I.e. substitute real fruit juice for pop or milk for pop or brown bread for white). How many items are processed items and how many are fresh?
3. Have a glass of water before you go
4. When you arrive at the store buy the items on the outside aisles first (fresh vegetables, fruit, cheese)
5. Take your time in the fresh vegetable and fruit area. Look over what they have and think about what foods you like with them.
5. If you must buy something sweet or salty then start by reduing the quantities you buy. Choose one chocolate bar instead of a pack, or buy one can of pop instead of a pack. Where ever you can try to reduce the snacks and processed foods and introduce fresh fruits and vegetables.
6. Look at the ingredients on the processed/packaged foods. The items are in the food in the order of quantity. (Ie if sugar is the second item listed, then sugar is the second ingredient in that food). 
7. After you've bought your groceries and changed how you shop then don't forget to give yourself some praise!
